On February 20th, Media Center hosted the head of “Region” research center Laura Baghdasaryan who presented the facebook activity of presidential candidates during the official campaign period, during the “silent day” and during the actual day of the elections.
According to the study of the “Region” out of all 7 runners it was only Serzh Sargsyan who didn’t use the facebook platform, however other 6 were very active to use the social media tool not only for their own P.R but what is called as “black” P.R.
The most active candidate on facebook was Paryur Hayrikyan who was frequent in changing his statuses and sparking discussions.
“In facebook no status was written by Andreas Ghukasyan, this was the candidate who was generally passive; Arman Meliqyan was also very passive”.
Baghdasaryan noted that most of the time the candidates did what is called anti-campaigns and throwing mud on each other, Aram Harutyunyan was especially active in this sphere.
“Although Aram Harutyunyan was using the internet the least of all candidates it was him to use most the “black” P.R against other candidates.
The study shows that during the silence day the facebook was not “silent”.
“If during the silent day the candidates and media have to be silent, the users of the facebook are not limited in any way. There were cases that both the journalists and editors have written about the election processes” Laura Baghdasaryan.
On the Election Day the most information about the election fraud was disseminated from the Raffi Hovhannisyan page, who during his campaign has received the most likes on facebook. “When starting the campaign, Raffi had 8000 likes but at the end it was 16 000.”
The head of “Region” research center Laura Baghdasaryan stated that the facebook study will continue after the elections as well, and the results will be available in two weeks.
